FC Groningen has announced that both Hedwiges Maduro and Desevio Payne will leave the club at the end of the season.

Following on the back of renewing Mimoun Mahi’s contract, Groningen has now released a statement, on their official website, regarding a number of other out of contract players.

Hedwiges Maduro and Desevio Payne will bid farewell at the end of the season, when their contracts expire.

Maduro joined Groningen in 2015, but despite a promising start in his return to the Eredivisie, the midfielder has only made three appearances this season. Therefore, the club has decided to release the thirty-two-year-old so he can find another club.

Payne, who came through the youth ranks at Groningen, has seen his playing time increase recently, but the club still feels he isn’t strong enough to regularly challenge for a first team role. Therefore, deciding against a renewal.

It was also announced that Stefan van der Lei, Peter van der Vlag, Glenn Bijl, Roland Baas and Keziah Veendorp will leave.

In some positive news for FC Groningen fans, Ajdin Hrustic, a first team regular, will be given an extension after the option in this existing contract was exercised.

The club also stated that positive discussions have taken place with both Jason Davidson and Tom Hiariej over new deals.
