The 20-year-old has been chosen to replace Luuk de Jong up front in Mark van Bommel’s side and has started the season in fine form.
Malen scored his first Eredivisie goal of the season in the win over ADO Den Haag on Saturday and afterwards he was asked by Fox Sports if he is aiming to match De Jong’s tally of 28 goals last season.
He responded, “It’s not about the number, it’s more about the peace of mind for the goal. Whether it’s going to be 20, 25 or 30, that doesn’t matter. With my qualities I must aim to score 20 goals. ”
Ronald Koeman was watching PSV on Saturday and Malen has been linked with a first call-up. However, Malen’s mind is only focused on PSV, “It is my first starting year in the Eredivisie. I hope I can stay in the starting line-up and continue to develop. Then we will see further. Oranje is not in my head now.”
