Donyell Malen scored a five goals as PSV Eindhoven defeated Vitesse Arnhem 5-0 in the Philips Stadion.

It has been an outstanding season for Donyell Malen so far, with the 20-year-old becoming the undisputed starting striker for PSV. Over the international break, Malen scored on his Netherlands debut in the win over Germany and also started the victory in Estonia.

The forward headed into the game with Vitesse full of confidence and after 18 minutes he opened the scoring. On-loan PSV defender Armando Obispo made a huge error in presenting the ball to Bruma, who burst through before laying the ball off for Malen to score.

Before that, Vitesse had been the more threatening side and after the opening they remained dangerous on the counter. However, Malen added a second for PSV ten minutes before the break with a bullet header from a Mohamed Ihattaren corner.

Ihattaren was also close to scoring during the first half but his shot was cleared off the line by Vitesse defender Julian Lelieveld.

A minute into the second half, Ihattaren was denied by Remko Pasveer but Malen was on hand to head in the rebound to complete his hat-trick.

PSV then strolled through the rest of the match with Mark van Bommel able to substitute Steven Bergwijn ahead of their Europa League clash with Sporting in midweek.

In the 83rd minute, PSV were awarded a penalty for a foul on Cody Gakpo. Malen slotted in the spot kick to make it 4-0. Five minutes later, Riechedly Bazoer was punished for a handball and Malen got his fifth with another penalty.

Malen becomes the first player to net five goals in one game in the Eredivisie since Bas Dost back in 2011.

PSV now move up to second and on the same points as leaders Ajax. Vitesse drop to third.
