PSV Eindhoven striker Donyell Malen will be out of action for months after suffering a knee issue.

The forward sustained the injury in PSV’s 3-1 defeat at Feyenoord last weekend and the initial diagnosis was bad news for the player and club.

Speaking to the PSV website, Malen confirmed that he will be out for months but the exact period will not be known until January.

He said, “There is damage.

“The knee must be relaxed now, as it is called. That takes a few weeks. Then I report to a specialist who will prepare the treatment plan with me and PSV.

“I will be out for months, that’s a fact. In January we can estimate the approximate number of months. ”

The injury may have consequences for the Dutch national team with Malen one of the options to replace Memphis Depay in the attack should the Lyon forward miss the tournament.
