The 19-year-old midfielders loan deal from Gamba Osaka was made permanent earlier this week with Groningen activating a clause to sign Doan for around €2 million.

Speaking to De Telegraaf, Groningen technical director Ron Jans revealed that Manchester City had offered to pay the €2 million in order to co-own the Japanese talent. However, Groningen rejected the deal and paid the fee on their own.

Doan has been a key player at Groningen this season, scoring eight goals and contributing three assists.
