The 18-year-old defender is one of the most sought-after youngsters in Europe with Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Arsenal just some of the clubs linked with the Dutch international.

According to The Telegraph, Manchester City are also in the race and the club’s technical director Txiki Bergiristain was in Amsterdam for a meeting with their chief Dutch scout Kelvin De Lang. It is unknown whether they both attended Ajax’s 4-1 victory over VVV Venlo to watch De Ligt in Action.

Manchester City are reportedly on the lookout for a new centre-back this summer despite the fact they signed Aymeric Laporte from Athletic Bilbao for £58 million in January.
