The centre-back, who has been injured since January, is one of the most sought after players this summer with Liverpool and Chelsea both among the queue of clubs hoping to sign the Dutch international.

However, it appears Manchester City are now huge favourites to sign the 25-year-old with The Times reporting that a £50 million bid is set to be submitted by the club coached by Pep Guardiola. They will also offer Van Dijk a five-year deal worth £180,000 a week.

Should the deal go through then Van Dijk would be the most expensive defender in history. It would also break the transfer record for a Dutch player.
