Louis van Gaal has claimed PSG’s interest in Memphis Depay forced Manchester United to make their move.

On Thursday it was announced that Depay will join Manchester United from PSV, subject to a medical.
After the deal was announced, PSV director Marcel Brands stated that he believed the 21-year-old was about to sign for PSG, who had agreed a deal 48 hours earlier. However it was the French clubs interest that triggered Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal to take quick action.
Speaking to MUTV, Van Gaal said, “I was forced to handle (the deal) as a manager because otherwise, he was going to PSG, that’s why I had to sign him and we have done it in one day.”
The United coach added on his new signing, “He’s a goalscoring winger and there aren’t many of them in the world. Messi is one of those.”
Good that Van Gaal responded quickly otherwise it could have been a great miss.
