Speaking to the official Manchester United website Blind spoke of his pride at joining the club, while he can’t wait to be reunited with ex-Netherlands national team coach Louis van Gaal.

Blind said, “It is a real honour to sign for Manchester United,”

“I have been at Ajax since I was seven years old and I will always have very fond memories of the club and of my time there.

“Louis van Gaal is a tremendously talented coach, I have worked with him at Ajax and also for the Netherlands national team and I cannot wait to work with him at the biggest club in the world.”

Blind made 146 appearances for the Ajax first team since making his debut in 2008, and leaves having won four Eredivisie titles in a row, whilst earning 19 caps for the Dutch national team.

Capable of playing along the back four, Blind is more accomplished as a defensive midfielder, but his versatility will be a huge asset for United boss Louis van Gaal, who will look to turn around the clubs poor start to the Premier League season after the upcoming international break.
