Spanish stopper David de Gea is being heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid this summer, meaning United boss Louis van Gaal needs to look for a new number one.
According to the Mirror, Van Gaal asked his goalkeeping coach Frans Hoek to draw up a shortlist of potential replacements for De Gea, and top of the list was Ajax’s Jasper Cillessen.
Hoek was goalkeeper coach for the Dutch national team when Van Gaal was in charge, and worked closely with Cillessen, who became the number one for last summer’s World Cup. Cillessen is now seen as the most reliable replacement for De Gea, but they would need to stump up a lot of money to convince Ajax to part with their star.
A £20 million bid is reportedly being readied to make Cillessen the second Dutchman to sign for United this summer after Memphis Depay.
Sometimes I think these Dutch links with Van Gaal et al are going too far!
With all the rumours going around that United may sign this Dutch player or that Dutch player, United will have to change their shirt from red to orange and play in the Eredevisie League instead of the Premier League!
Ha ha ha..Very funny.. But yes, even being a big Holland fan,I am feeling the same and I doubt how far he is focusing on the skill and actual ability of the player going beyond his oranje patriotism.
