Sky Sports is reporting that Manchester United are no longer in the race to sign Ajax centre-back Matthijs de Ligt.

On Saturday evening there were several reports, including from Catalan outlet RAC1, that Manchester United were close to a deal for De Ligt after offering the defender a lucrative contract.

However, Sky Sports are now reporting that the Premier League side are no longer in the running because the club’s hierarchy believe De Ligt is on his way to Barcelona.

A transfer to Spain has been the expected destination for the Ajax captain but that move seemed to have stalled after De Ligt’s agent Mino Raiola upped his demands.
