vlaar bfjbvdManchester United boss Louis van Gaal is desperate to add experience to his backline in January, and Ron Vlaar, who was part of the Netherlands squad that Van Gaal led to the Word Cup semi-finals, is reportedly a top target.

ESPN are reporting today that even though Vlaar’s contract is up in the summer, Aston Villa will ask Manchester United for £12 million in January for the 29-year-old in a bid to take advantage of their desperation for a defender.

Vlaar is rumoured to have already agreed personal terms for a move to Old Trafford, and even if a move in January doesn’t happen he could move to Manchester United on a free deal next summer when his contract expires.

Fans of Manchester United may not get too excited about the arrival of Vlaar, who’s form in the Premier League has been up and down since moving to England from Feyenoord in 2012, but he showed his true qualities at the World Cup, and if Louis van Gaal could get the best out of him then it would be a great signing.
