According to reports in England, Manchester United are the latest club hoping to sign Ajax midfielder Frenkie de Jong.

The 21-year-old has been heavily linked with Spanish giants Barcelona for months, while Tottenham Hotspur, Borussia Dortmund and PSG are also showing keen interest in the midfielder.

According to The Sun, Manchester United sent scouts to watch De Jong in action for Netherlands in their 2-1 UEFA Nations League defeat to France. Jose Mourinho wants to add a versatile midfielder to his squad and has now set his sights on De Jong.

Manchester United are hoping to use their good relationship with Ajax director Edwin van der Sar to jump to the front of the queue. A January deal is wanted but Marc Overmars has already ruled that De Jong is going nowhere until at least the summer.
