Feyenoord stunned Manchester United in De Kuip earlier in the competition but boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst is expecting a totally different performance from the English side on Thursday.

fey-man-jfjA goal from Tonny Vilhena gave Feyenoord a 1-0 win over the Red Devils in Rotterdam, and another victory on Thursday would book their place in the knockout stages.

However, boss Giovanni van Bronckhorst is expecting to come up against a motivated United side on Thursday, with Jose Mourinho’s team needing to avoid defeat or they are out of the competition. He told his press conference, “We saw at De Kuip that you can get a good result against Manchester United. It’s just that the approach will be different from what it was

“It’s just that the approach will be different from what it was then, because United have to win. That makes this a completely different match from the one in Rotterdam.”

The Eredivisie leaders looked good in a 3-0 win over PEC Zwolle at the weekend, but van Bronckhorst is suffering a defensive crisis ahead of their trip to Manchester. Terence Kongolo and Eric Botteghin will miss the tie along with Sven van Beek, leaving Jan Arie van der Heijden as their only fit centre-back. Feyenoord are set to turn to either midfielder Renato Tapia or reserve Wessel Dammers to fill in at the back. Midfielder Karim El Ahmadi is also out of the game.

Possible Feyenoord line-up: Jones, Karsdorp, Nelom, van der Heijden, Tapia, Vilhena, Vejinovic, Kuyt, Toornstra, Elia, Jorgensen

United boss Jose Mourinho has confirmed he will pick a strong side as he targets at least four points from the next two ties to book their place in the next round. Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling are both out through injury while Marouane Fellaini is a doubt. Memphis Depay will be hoping for some game time but is unlikely to start, but Daley Blind could earn a spot in the starting line-up.

Possible Manchester United line-up: De Gea, Valencia, Shaw, Blind, Jones, Schneiderlin, Herrera, Mkhitaryan, Pogba, Lingard, Zlatan
