Hakim Ziyech made an impact on his debut as Ajax saw off 10-man Vitesse 1-0 to earn their first home win of the season.

viergev-aja-winAjax, who handed a debut to Hakim Ziyech on the right wing, started the game brightly with Amin Younes and Nemanja Gudelj forcing Eloy Room into saves, but as the first half wore on Vitesse came into the game. Nathan got an excellent chance when he raced through on goal but he could only tamely shoot straight at Andre Onana.

Ten minutes into the second half Ajax took the lead with Ziyech swinging a free kick into the box for an unmarked Nick Viergever to head past Room. The visitors brought on Adnane Tighadouini and Mitchell van Bergen as they looked for an equaliser, but they were reduced to ten men after the hour with Arnold Kruiswijk shown his second yellow card.

With an extra man Ajax created several chances to seal victory but Kasper Dolberg fired over, while Room made a good save to deny Anwar El Ghazi. In injury time Vitesse came close to snatching a point as Tighadouini fired at goal from distance but Onana pushed the strike away and Ajax held on.

The three points move Ajax third while Vitesse are 8th.
