The winger was top scorer for PSV Eindhoven last season, and great things were expected when he switched the Philips Stadion for Old Trafford in the summer for a fee of £25 million.
However, Memphis has struggled to settle in England so far and has received constant criticism from the media and the club’s fan base.
Speaking at an Under Armour event, the 22-year-old admitted himself that he has not yet met expectations.
He said, “I haven’t yet lived up to everything people expected of me,”
“I have a lot of expectations of myself, and it will come, confidence and experience will help. You have to learn from your mistakes and keep working hard to improve.”
Memphis went on to praise coach Ryan Giggs for his advice during training, “Ryan Giggs is a legend, he talks a lot with me, he gives me advice, he has experienced everything already so he can help me with lots of things,”
“He works a lot with me and he and Wayne Rooney give me lots to think about. That really inspires me because they are legends, I feel that I am doing something well with them.”
