Memphis Depay’s second Premier League goal of the season helped Manchester United go top of the table with a 2-1 win at Watford.

memphis d manManchester United boss Louis van Gaal admitted he was disappointed with the winger’s start at the club since his move from PSV, but the boss handed Memphis his first start since the 4th of October for the trip to Watford.

After a hosts of injuries, Memphis was thrust into the role of striker on Saturday and he took only eleven minutes to open the scoring with a lovely volleyed finish from close range.

The goal clearly gave the Netherlands international confidence and he nearly added further goals in the second half, seeing a fierce strike tipped wide before sending an instinctive scooped shot inches past the post.

After weeks of criticism Memphis will finally earn some praise after an impressive performance, which earned him the official man of the match award. The youngster will now look to kick on and continue to impress when Manchester United host former club PSV in the Champions League next week.
