Memphis Depay has reiterated that he feels ready to leave Lyon and move to a bigger club in the near future.

After an excellent first full season with Lyon, there was no concrete interest in the 24-year-old who had a difficult period with Manchester United before moving to France.

Speaking to the Fox Sports cameras while on Netherlands duty, Memphis said, “I was linked to some clubs, but for me, it was a quiet summer. That was fine. But I think I’m ready for a step higher up.

“Recently I also indicated that I would like to go higher. I say that with all due respect, because Lyon is also a super-large club. I am grateful for how they have dealt with me, and still deal, and I am also glad that I am still playing football here. But in my opinion I am ready to take another step. I would also like to do that and do not put myself under chairs or benches.

“I’m just going to play football this season, then it will come naturally,”
