Memphis struggled to impress for Manchester United since joining from PSV in 2013 and when Mourinho took charge in the summer he was largely frozen out of the first team.

The winger decided to leave Old Trafford for Lyon in January and he has rediscovered his form, scoring five times in nine appearances, including a stunning effort from the halfway line against Toulouse last weekend.

Speaking to BeIN Sport, Memphis has stated that leaving Manchester United was the right move for his career and added he has no bitterness towards Mourinho.

He said, “Leaving Manchester United? That was not complicated. I’m young, I need to play.

“When I think about the last time I played a whole 90 minutes before coming here, it was a year ago. It’s incredible.

“I have no bitterness (towards Mourinho). I did what I had to do in training. Of course I didn’t understand the choices, but he was the boss.

“I had to accept those choices. I think I was not good enough for him. But it’s okay, I’m showing my quality here.

“I’ll be back to the top and we’ll see what will happen.”

Next up for Memphis and Lyon is a top of the table clash against PSG on Sunday.
