Memphis scored twice and added two assists as Netherlands made a good start to the Euro 2020 qualifiers. After the game he told NOS that he was hoping for a hat trick, “If you make two, you always want the third. My assumption was not entirely correct. I’ll keep it for the next time.”
The striker scored after 50 seconds and he believes a fast start was crucial in the comfortable win, “The start was great, if you start like this, an evening will naturally become easier. We also said it to each other before we went outside: the first ten minutes we immediately wanted to find that goal. Then you also have to be lucky.”
Memphis isn’t having a great time with his club Lyon at the moments but he excels in Oranje, “I don’t think I need to say much about that. I enjoy being here with the boys and I get confidence from the trainer. He knows how to trigger me. This is a good group with a good staff.
“For me, nothing has changed at Oranje, it is still the same as last time when I left with a wonderful feeling. We have to hold on to this as a team and everyone has a share in it.”
