After their last minute victory over New Zealand in their opening group game, Netherlands were looking for a more comfortable afternoon against Cameroon.
However, Oranje started sloppily once again with chances few and far between in the opening stages. In the 41st minute, Netherlands finally showed some intensity and Vivienne Miedema headed in the opener.
Netherlands were only in front for two minutes before Gabrielle Aboudi Onguéné capitalised on an error by Sari van Veenendaal to equalise.
Three minutes into the second half, Netherlands regained their lead through Dominique Bloodworth, who finished off a clever free-kick routine.
Cameroon came close to equalising but in the 85th minute, victory was sealed by Miedema, who’s fierce strike made it 3-1. The goal was Miedema’s 60th for Netherlands making her the top scorer in the history of the Women’s team.
The victory moves Netherlands onto six points in the group and guarantees them a place in the next round. On Thursday, Netherlands will face Canada looking to finish top in the group.
