milik willArkadiusz Milik had more than his fair share of criticism aimed at him after the winter break, as he failed to find the net in three consecutive Eredivisie games. However, he answered his doubters by scoring in the 2-2 draw against Roda JC at the end of January, and hasn’t looked back since. The Polish striker really began to pick up his form towards late February as he scored a brace against Excelsior, as well as adding another two goals to his goal scoring tally a week later in a home win against AZ Alkmaar.

As Ajax’s title challenge gathered pace so did Milik’s confidence as he looked like the player he was in the first half of the season. This was perfect timing for the Dutch giants as the title race heated up with arch rivals PSV. The 22-year-old carried his form in to March as he scored in consecutive games against Williem and NEC, which left Ajax one point behind table topping PSV, going into the pivotal clash in Eindhoven on Sunday.

Ajax traveled to the Philips Stadion knowing a win would put them in a dominant position with six games to go, and it only took the Ajax striker a minute to have an immediate effect as he brilliantly headed in an inch perfect Joel Veltman cross. After an impressive performance, Ajax ran out 2-0 winners leaving them two points clear at the top and now favourites to win the Eredivisie.

The Ajax title surge has a lot to do with a back in form Milik, who has now scored 16 league goals in 25 appearances this campaign including seven goals in his last five games. Ajax could well be on their way to yet another Eredivisie title, and if the young Polish international keeps up this form heading into this summers European Championships there will be a queue of clubs fighting for his signature in the summer.
