Van der Gaag stated that he was very pleased to get the first three points on the board this season.

He said, ”Our pre season results were very inconsistent but we did see improvements as our friendly games went on and we knew that we could take that into the start of the season.

”I believe that we deserved our win today. I do not complain about the squad we have here at Excelsior Rotterdam . We have good players and a very small squad. My players know what is expected of them.

”It’s great to pick up the first three points of the season. I said to my players that I did not expect us to play our best game of the season today. It’s a great feeling to win away against Willem II.

”My players have seen today what the rewards of hard work are. We have to keep going and play our own game this season and achieve success with it like we have done today.”
