PSV are aware of growing interest from AS Monaco in Jetro Willems. Monaco see the left back as the ideal person to strengthen their squad for the upcoming Champions League campaign. Therefore, the French club, who finished second in Ligue 1 last season, are set to test the Eredivise champions resolve with a formal bid.
Jetro Willems is currently valued at €9 million and is in the last year of his contract at PSV. The player is thought to be interested in a transfer this summer, to take the next step in his career. The potential fee should not represent much of a stumbling for Monaco, who are one of the wealthiest teams in France.
PSV will be reluctant to let a key piece of their championship winning side leave, but are aware that they could lose him on a Bosman (free) deal next year. Therefore, the fact that this is PSV’s last chance to get something for Willems could ultimately force their hand. Any funds could then be reinvested to strengthen their squad following a number of high profile departures such as Jeffery Bruma to VfL Wolfsburg.
Before PSV, Jetro Willems played for Sparta Rotterdam moving to the Dutch champions in 2011 for around €800k. Therefore, any sale will represent a substantial profit for the Eindhoven club. During his career at PSV, Willems has won the Eredivise, KNVB Beker and Johan Cruijff Shield making one hundred and sixty appearances for the club scoring ten goals and contributing thirty-one assists.
