Excelsior have confirmed the appointment of Ricardo Moniz as their head coach until the end of the season.

Adrie Poldervaart stepped down last week with Excelsior now sitting second-bottom in the Eredivisie.

With only five games left of the regular season left and possible relegation playoffs to come, Excelsior have brought in Moniz on a short-term contract.

The 54-year-old is an experienced coach, who most recently took charge of AS Trencin, who knocked Feyenoord out of the Europa League earlier this season. He previously had spells with clubs such as FC Eindhoven, Notts County, 1860 Munich and Red Bull Salzburg.
