Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Mourinho said that Memphis Depay was not in the squad to face Reading because he was no longer an option for him. However, speaking to Fox Sports after a 4-0 win in the FA Cup, Mourinho said he would be happy if Memphis stayed past January and stated he would get game time.
He said, “We have many players in that position: Jesse Lingard, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Juan Mata , Marcus Rashford, sometimes Wayne Rooney.
“Therefore, from a human point of view I can not stop him from wanting to leave. I am sorry that I can not give him playing time, he is a good player and a great guy.
“A player must play at his age. If he stays, I’m happy. He will certainly come in the second half of the season to minutes because we play so many matches. If he goes well, we wish him all the best because he is a great kid, ”
Mourinho stated on Friday that they had not received an acceptable bid for the winger yet despite reported interest from several clubs including Everton, AC Milan and Roma.
