AZ had failed to win any of the previous three matches since Van den Brom took charge, but a single goal from Nemanja Gudelj was enough to secure victory over a hapless NAC Breda.
The visitors dominated from the start but they failed to take any of their chances, with Maumer Tankovic failing to beat Jelle ten Rouwelaar when one-one-one with the goalkeeper, who also made good stop from Gudelj, while Aron Johannsson fired wide.
NAC’s only threat in the first half came from free kicks, but Esteban dealt with Uros Matis’s effort while Adnane Tighadouini’s set piece flew over the bar.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 57th minute through a wonderful strike from Nemanja Gudelj who looped the ball over Ten Rouwelaar from the right hand side of the pitch. Whether it was a cross or a shot, only Gudelj knows, but he celebrated against his former club by pointing to his father Nebojsa, who was fired from his position as NAC Breda coach last month.
NAC pushed to find an equaliser, but Jeffrey Sarpong, and Mats Seuntjens squandered opportunities as AZ held on. The win puts AZ sixth while NAC Breda stay second bottom.
