The home side went into the game without a win in their last four matches, while Cambuur weren’t much better after losing their last three Eredivisie ties.
NAC Breda started the game better, with Rydell Poepon failing to beat Leonard Nienhuis when one on one with the goalkeeper in the best chance of the first half.
Cambuur sat back in the second half looking for the draw, and with the home side failing to create any real chances a point apiece looked likely, until Anouar Hadouir curled a brilliant free kick into the net to give the home side the lead on 74 minutes.
In the final minute Cambuur almost equalised but Tim Gilessen was on the line to prevent substitute Mart Dijkstra’s effort.
NAC Breda go into the winter break 11th, while Cambuur linger one point off the bottom in 17th. Some January recruits may be needed for Cambuur if they are to prevent relegation.
