de leeuw aGroningen began the game brightly, with Filip Kostic firing just wide after a good run down the left hand side. However it was NAC who took the lead on 10 minutes, when Jeffrey Sarpong’s cross into the middle was smashed into the net by Danny Verbeek.

NAC pushed for the 2nd goal, with Anthony Lurling missing from close range, and Verbeek firing wide, as the home side dominated.

The 2nd goal finally came on 74 minutes, when a cross from the left was flicked into the path of Stipe Perica, and the on loan forward took a touch before firing into the net from close range.

On 80 minutes, Groningen pulled a goal back in controversial circumstances as a ball into the box seemed to be handled by Michael de Leeuw, before being stabbed into the net by Giliano Wijnaldum.

Then in injury time a foul by Sepp de Roover on Wijnaldum resulted in a penalty for Groningen, and De Leeuw made no mistake from the spot, firing the ball into the top corner.

The draw sees NAC Breda remain in 10th, and the point isn’t enough for Groningen to move above AZ and they stay 5th.
