PEC Zwolle who were knocked out of the Europa league by Sparta Prague on Thursday went into the game looking to preserve their unbeaten start to the season, and they should have taken the lead when a cross found Tomas Necid free in the box, but his header flew wide.
NAC Breda took the lead on 37 minutes as striker Stipe Perica smashed into the net from close range after Kingsley Boeteng headed back across goal from the far post.
Four minutes into the second half PEC Zwolle equalised through Necid, who fired past Jelle Ten Rouwelaar after latching onto Stef Njland’s precise through ball.
Both teams then created chances to take the lead before Perica was upended in the box by Bram van Polen, and after an argument between the striker, and Erik Falkenburg, the latter stepped up from the spot to put the home side 2-1 ahead.
Elson Hooi sealed the win with six minutes to go by rifling an unstoppable shot past Diederik Boer from just inside the box.
PEC Zwolle’s 100% winning start has been ended, while NAC move away from the bottom three after their first win of the campaign.
