Mitchell Te Vrede netted late on to give NAC Breda an important 2-1 victory over Heracles Almelo which lifted the hosts off the bottom.

Groningen’s win on Friday night meant that NAC went into the tie against high-flying Heracles rooted to the bottom of the Eredivisie. The visitors knew a win would put them into the top three.

Heracles surprisingly started without Dalmau up front and they struggled to turn their dominance into chances early on. In the 21st minute, NAC took the lead when Luka Ilic found the net from a tight angle.

The visitors then went in search of an equaliser which finally came on the hour mark with Brandley Kuwas firing an excellent strike into the bottom corner from outside the box. Kristoffer Peterson was then denied by the woodwork as Heracles sought the lead.

However, it was NAC who snatched the three points when Mitchell Te Vrede found the roof of the net with a powerful finish. The victory lifts NAC back above Groningen and into 17th while Heracles stay fourth.
