NAC Breda are a step closer to relegation after a 2-1 defeat at Fortuna Sittard.

Only a win would do for NAC on Sunday with the club having only four games to claw back a four point gap on De Graafschap in order to avoid automatic relegation.

The visitors had the first big chance of the game but Menno Koch headed a free-kick over the bar.

With six minutes left of the first half, Fortuna were awarded a penalty for a foul on Lazaros Lamprou. Mark Diemers kept his cool from the spot to make it 1-0.

Mitchell Te Vrede wasted an excellent chance at the start of the second half as NAC went on the offensive. Mikhail Rosheuvel and Gervane Kastaneer came off the bench to add pace to their attack but the equaliser failed to come.

In the 81st minute, Fortuna doubled their lead as Diemers placed his shot perfectly into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

Te Vrede pulled one back in stoppage time but it proved to be nothing more than a consolation.

NAC stay rock bottom while Fortuna Sittard are 14th and seven points clear of the bottom three.
