NAC Breda stunned Vitesse Arnhem 2-1 to book their third victory of the campaign and rise off the bottom of the table.

After a dull opening period the game kicked into life just before the break. After a tussle with Arno Verschueren, Alexander Buttner went down in the box and was eventually awarded a penalty. Navarone Foor took it and tried a Panenka but the ball flew high and wide of the goal.

The miss was made even more painful for the visitors when Mitchell Te Vrede fired NAC in front just before half-time. It was initially called offside but after consulting the video referee, a goal was given.

NAC were the better side but twenty minutes before the end, Vitesse equalised when Bryan Linssen stooped to head in a Vyacheslav Karavaev cross. Vitesse then looked for a winner but Martin Odegaard’s shot deflected just wide while Benjamin van Leer stopped a Foor header.

Vitesse looked the more likely side to win but seven minutes from time, Te Vrede won a header in the box and the ball fell into the path of Verschueren who slotted in the winner.

The win lifts NAC above De Graafschap into 17th place while Vitesse miss the chance to go fifth and remains seventh.
