For the first time in twelve Eredivisie matches, Sparta Rotterdam claimed a victory. They claimed a 1-0 win over NEC in Nijmegen.

The home side dominated the early stages and after Kevin Mayi was denied by Ryan Korsmit, NEC were awarded a penalty for a foul on Julian von Haacke. However, Korsmit turned Gregor Breinburg’s spot kick to safety.
As the first half went on Sparta became more confident and they took the lead before the break through Paco van Moorsel, who swept Denzel Dumfries cross into the net.
After the break, NEC went in search of the equaliser but Ferdi Kadioglu had an effort blocked, and substitute Taiwo Awoniyi also sent a good chance wide. Sparta held on for a win which moves them to 14th while NEC are 12th.
