The visitors arrived in Nijmegen bottom of the table but after only 12 minutes they stunned NEC by taking the lead. Elvis Manu took a pass from Daniel Crowley before racing through five NEC defenders and firing into the net.
After 25 minutes it was 2-0 as a simple through ball led to Jarchinio Antonia racing through on goal and the winger slid the ball past Joris Delle.
Just after the hour mark, NEC were handed a lifeline when Manu was shown his second yellow for diving, and they laid siege to the Go Ahead Eagles box for the final half an hour. However, the Deventer side stood firm until in injury time the home side netted a consolation through Jay-Roy Grot.
The first away win of the season for Go Ahead isn’t enough to lift them off the bottom but they are now level on points with Roda JC. NEC remain 10th.
