NEC Nijmegen climbed to seventh in the table after a 2-1 win over bottom side Cambuur.

santos nec camWith PEC Zwolle and Vitesse both dropping points this weekend, NEC Nijmegen knew a win would put them into the final play-off spot with only three games to go. The hosts dominated the first half but had to wait until the 54th minute to open the scoring with Navarone Foor’s shot hitting Christian Santos and nestling in the net to give the Venezuelan his 16th goal of the season.

On 70 minutes it was 2-0 for the home side as substitute Mihai Roman beat Leonard Nienhuis to score his first goal for the club.

A miscommunication in the NEC defence gifted Jergé Hoefdraad a goal with ten minutes to go which gave Cambuur hope, but despite putting pressure on they couldn’t find a late equaliser.

Cambuur stay bottom and two points off of De Graafschap while NEC rise above their rivals Vitesse into seventh.
