Vitesse made the better start to the game, but gradually NEC came into the action and before the break Anthony Limbombe took a long ball down before sliding the ball past Eloy Room to give the home side the lead.

NEC dominated after the break and after Todd Kane saw an effort well saved by Room, the second goal eventually came with 15 minutes left. A corner from Limbombe was dropped by Room and Dario Dumic had a simple finish.

With seven minutes to go Lewis Baker gave Vitesse hope with an excellent free kick, but the Arnhem side couldn’t find the equaliser.

The win means NEC move level on points with Vitesse in the table as both look to seal a place in the European play-offs. NEC are eighth and Vitesse stay 7th.
