Roda JC’s poor start to the season continued on Saturday as the slumped to a 1-0 defeat to NEC Nijmegen in Kerkrade.

The hosts had also failed to score in their last six matches and their lack of confidence was clear in the first half as they struggled to create any chances, while at the other end NEC were also impotent as fans endured a dull first 45 minutes.
After the break, NEC took charge with Mikael Dyrestam sending a strike wide of the goal while Benjamin van Leer had to tip Kévin Mayi’s shot over the bar. The home crowd grew frustrated as Roda JC failed to create anything and it was no suprise when NEC finally found the lead with ten minutes left. Quincy Owusu-Abeyie sent Mayi through on goal and the attacker made no mistake with his finish.
The win lifts NEC to 11th in the table, while Roda JC head into the international break with a lot to ponder.
