jahanNEC took the lead on 16 minutes, with right back Marnick Vermijl firing a low shot past Alvarado after a strong run down the wing.

The lead did not last long, and AZ were level on 24 minutes, as Roy Beerens finished from close range after Jan Wuytens original shot was saved.

On 52 minutes, Alireza Jahanbakhsh was allowed to much space at a corner, and the forward made no mistake at the front post to head NEC 2-1 in front.

Jahanbakhsh then added his second of the game with 20 minutes left with an excellent looping effort which left Alvarado with no chance.

Steve Berghuis gave AZ hope on 80 minutes by firing into the top corner with a fine left footed effort after cutting in from the right wing.

NEC’s finest performance of the season, and only their second win, but it is not enough to lift them off the bottom of the table. AZ slip down to 6th after their first defeat since Dick Advocaat took charge of the club.
