Roda JC took the lead after eight minutes, as a swift counter attack saw Guus Hupperts beat his marker in the box before rifling a right footed effort into the top corner.
Four minutes later it was 2-o with Kriztian Nemeth beating two defenders before slotting into the bottom corner past Karl-Johan Johnsson.
NEC bombared the Roda JC box looking for a way back into the game, and Kevin Conboy came so close to making it 2-1 before the break with a terrific effort that cannoned back of the bar.
A minute into the second half the home side finally scored thanks to a great passing move which ended with right back Marnick Vermijl finishing excellently.
NEC equalised on the hour mark as Soren Rieks perfectly guided a header from Jakob Jantscher’s free-kick into the top corner to make it 2-2.
Incredibly Rieks was then left unmarked at the back post to net Christoph Hemlein’s cross and make it 3-2 to NEC with twenty minutes to go.
Conboy headed NEC 4-2 in front with ten minutes to go to after being picked out by Jantscher’s clever free-kick. However Roda JC gave themselves a lifeline near the end through Frank Demouge, and the home side were set for a nervy finish.
Despite a late penalty claim, NEC survived to seal all three points, and move temporarily up to 17th place above RKC, who face ADO Den Haag later on Saturday.
An incredible win for NEC, and one that could give them the confidence to go on a run and climb out of the relegation zone.
