Ajax returned to winning ways in the Eredivisie with a David Neres double leading them a 4-0 victory over Heerenveen in the Abe Lenstra Stadion.

The defeat at home to Vitesse last weekend piled the pressure on coach Marcel Keizer ahead of the game on Sunday against high flying Heerenveen. Keizer decided to make changes with David Neres and Lasse Schone returning to the line-up.
The best chances at the start of the game fell to Heerenveen, who hit the post twice through Stijn Schaars and Kik Pierie, while Martin Odegaard couldn’t beat Andre Onana when through one-on-one with the goalkeeper.
On 38 minutes, Ajax took the lead against the run of play through Neres, who played a clever one-two with Klaas-Jan Huntelaar before slotting the ball past Martin Hansen. Three minutes later the Brazilian doubled the lead, latching onto a long ball before squeezing his shot through Hansen’ legs.
Donny van de Beek hit the bar with a great strike early in the second half, but the home side continued to create and miss good chances to get themselves back into the game. Yuki Kobayashi had the best of the opportunities, forcing Onana into a good save with a fierce strike.
With 25 minutes to go, Ajax killed the game with Lasse Schone netting from the spot after Huntelaar was brought down. Maximilian Wober then netted on his Eredivisie debut to make it 4-0. The defender slammed the ball into the net from close range after a scramble in the box.
The victory lifts Ajax to sixth in the table, while Heerenveen suffer their first defeat of the season and are now 4th.
