After two minutes, Netherlands had the first chance with Jeffrey Bruma seeing his header cleared off the line, and the follow up from Jeremain Lens was ruled out for offside.
The deadlock was broken after 16 minutes, when Robin van Persie headed in a cross to take him only one away from Patrick Kluivert’s all time scoring record.
Kevin Strootman made it 2-0 to the hosts after 25 minutes, with a header in the centre of the box from a Lens cross. On 38 minutes Lens netted with a first time effort.
Van Persie then equaled Kluivert’s record with a header from an Arjen Robben cross, making it 4-0 and celebrated the goal with the Dutch legend on the bench.
Minutes into the second half, Jeffrey Bruma handled in the box handing Hungary a penalty, which Dzsudskak calmly netted to reduce the scoreline.
On 54 minutes Van Persie had his hat-trick, and moved ahead of Kluivert with his 41st goal for his country, finishing from close range after being put through by Robben.
After 65 minutes, a cross from Lens was headed into his own net by defenderĀ Devecseri for 6-1, who was under pressure from Robben. The 7th goal came on 86 minutes when Rafael van der Vaart’s deflected free-kick wrong footed Bogdan in Hungarys goal.
On 89 minutes Arjen Robben completed the win, as he curled in a free kick into the top corner to make it 8-1, and complete Hungary’s misery.
Nigel De Jong was a major reason Holland won. He won every ball and helped at the back. Eight goals and you think it was a major attack but I heard VDV;s name once and was when he scored. Nigel De Jong was involved the whole game. Its time Kuyt was no longer called up, he’s a great person but when he left Feyenoord he got worse every year. Again Nigel De Jong was a beast and he was the best player on the pitch.
