blind press conferenceThe 58-year-old’s latest Netherlands squad contains five players from his former club (Bazoer, Cillessen, Tete, Riedewald, and El Ghazi) while Feyenoord and PSV only send two each to the selection.

This has led to criticism from the media, with some indicating that PSV duo Davy Propper and Jorrit Hendrix should have been in line for a call up above Riechedly Bazoer, but Blind has rubbished claims he is biased towards Ajax.

Blind told a press conference, “I think that’s nonsense. It does not interest me what club they are at. I try to select the best players, I do not know any coach who does not. The choices can always challenge you, but there are not preference, ”

On why he chose Bazoer over Propper and Hendrix to replace Davy Klaassen he added, “We have watched the players over the last few weeks. I found that Hendrix played well yesterday (v Ajax), but not the matches before. And Pröpper is on the list. We meet every Tuesday about what we have seen. Bazoer was based on the most recent games above Pröpper.”

Blind spent 13 years with Ajax as a player before spells as a coach and assistant coach with the Amsterdam club.
