The Dutch squad took to the training field once again on Tuesday ahead of the crucial tie in Latvia on Friday, with coach Guus Hiddink giving some clues to what his starting line-up could be.
It appears that Jordy Clasie and Georginio Wijnaldum failed to impress Hiddink during the defeat to USA last week, and they will be replaced in midfield by Wesley Sneijder and Daley Blind. PSV’s Jetro Willems will replace Blind at left back, Stefan de Vrij will come in for Jeffrey Bruma, and Luciano Narsingh will line up on the right wing, instead of Quincy Promes.
Ron Vlaar was expected to start, but he has pulled out through a calf injury, while Memphis Depay appears to have recovered from a foot injury. If the winger fails to prove his fitness, then Jeremain Lens will benefit.
Probable Netherlands XI v Latvia (4-2-3-1) Cillessen, Janmaat, Willems, De Vrij, Martins Indi, Blind, Sneijder, Van Persie, Narsingh, Depay, Huntelaar.
Netherlands go into the tie against Latvia six points off leaders Czech Republic and five behind Iceland, with the top two facing each other on Friday. A win for the Dutch is crucial if they are to get back into contention for the two automatic qualifying spots.
