Louis van Gaal only made a few changes to the side that defeated Poland, with Davy Klaassen, Steven Berghuis and Marten de Roon making up the midfield, while Vincent Janssen partnered Steven Bergwijn up front.
The first half saw Belgium create a few chances, but Remko Pasveer was never really tested, while at the other end, Denzel Dumfries fired over the bar. Van Gaal was forced into a change as Berghuis went off injured and Cody Gakpo came on.
Kenneth Taylor and Tyrell Malacia also came on at the break, but chances were few and far between for Oranje. Belgium had a big chance after the hour, but Amadou Onana’s effort was kept out by Pasveer.
In the 73rd minute, Netherlands took the lead with Virgil van Dijk rising to head in the opener from a Gakpo corner. It could have been 2-0 but Klaassen missed a good opportunity, while Bergwijn also fired into the side netting.
With the last kick of the game, Belgium hit the crossbar but Netherlands hug on to claim the victory and the group. They go into the last four of the Nations League but also remain unbeaten under Van Gaal with the World Cup on the horizon.
