Defending champions, Netherlands U17’s eased to a 2-0 victory over Sweden in their opening game of the European Championships.

Netherlands dominated the game from the start but had to wait until the 33rd minute to break the deadlock. Brian Brobbey latched onto an excellent pass from his Ajax teammate Naci Unuvar before firing in the opener.

A minute later, Chelsea’s Ian Maatsen made it 2-0 with a low strike. Kenneth Taylor came within inches of making it 3-0 before the break with his shot from the edge of the box denied by the post.

In the second half, Sweden improved but Netherlands created several chances for a third goal which did not come. Swedish goalkeeper Oliver Dovin denied Brobbey more than once.

On Monday, Netherlands face England before ending the group phase against France.
