Jasper Cillessen 5/10: Not a great night for the goalkeeper. Probably could have saved both of Germany’s goals but seemed a bit off with his timing. Had a quiet second half after denying Werner.
Kenny Tete 4/10: A massive downgrade from Dumfries. It’s surprising enough that Tete is in the squad at all but starting with him was a shock. Tete has barely played for Lyon this season and it showed. Was given a torrid time by Sane and didn’t contribute much going forward.
Daley Blind 6/10: A solid evening from the Ajax defender, who was not as caught out as Tete. Didn’t contribute much going forward but did well defensively.
Virgil van Dijk 7.5//10: The hero for Oranje on the night. Van Dijk popped up with the equaliser at the end and led his side into the last four. Was out of position for the opener, but was afterwards barely threatened. A captains performance.
Matthijs de Ligt 5.5/10: Not a great first half for the youngster, who was caught out by Germany for both goals. Improved in the second half and was solid alongside van Dijk.
Georginio Wijnaldum 4.5/10: The old Wijnaldum was back in Oranje. A completely invisible performance from the Liverpool man before he was subbed in the second half.
Marten de Roon 7/10: A very encouraging performance again for De Roon, who had a slow start but eventually took control in midfield. He was crucial with his tackling and also set up Promes for Netherlands first goal.
Frenkie de Jong 6/10: We have come to expect so much from Frenkie that it is a shock when he doesn’t control games. He was very tidy in possession but didn’t contribute much to the attack. Not his most influential evening.
Ryan Babel 5/10: Struggled to get involved and was forced off in the first half through injury.
Quincy Promes 6.5/10: Tried hard to get involved but struggled to create anything of worth until he curled in to make it 2-1. A lovely finish from the Sevilla man, but still plenty more to come from the attacker.
Memphis Depay 6.5/10: He was full of energy and stayed Netherlands main threat for most of the game before Promes made it 2-1. Struggled for service at times from his teammates.
Substitutes:
Javairo Dilrosun 4/10: Not the debut Dilrosun would have hoped for. Came on in the first half but left early in the second after suffering a hamstring injury. Only managed four touches.
Tonny Vilhena 7/10: Made a big impact in place for Wijnaldum. Brought some more energy and tenacity to the midfield. Completed 100% of his passes and swung in the cross for the equaliser.
Luuk de Jong 5.5/10: Helped Netherlands get up the pitch late on with his aerial presence. De Jong definitely has the ability to make the impact from the bench. A good option to have for Koeman.
THANK YOU for noticing how good De Roon was here. Unbelievable that some people want him dropped after this match, he’s been exactly what the team has missed in a #6 player for years.
know one should get higher than a 6. That was poorly played game all around. 88 minutes of boring and no chances. The last 6-7 was the same tempo they played the entire France game.
Luk de jong should start Memphis should play on the wings.
The one positive in this game is that a year ago they would have loste. Psychologically speaking, they are on the right track. Now. Koeman needs to light a fire under Wijnaldum’s feet, he must bring Davey Klaessen back. Van Aanholt must be given a chance because as much as I like Blind, his lack of speed has been and will be exploited by some teams. Kenny Tete has no place in the team. Janmaat and Dumfries offer QUALITY at that position. MEMPHIS.For all his talent I do not believe he can be a guaranty of success. At times he reminds me of Balotelli, talented but lacks speed and humility. For Memphis to be MORE effective he must learn to confine his actionS to the offensive third due to his lack of quickness and speed. Let’s face it the next best and most talented striker is Justin Kluivert, hands down. He is technically superior to all the others strikers. If Tete can start, there is no justification for Kluivert not to even be on the bench.
