Netherlands struggled to a 2-2 draw against Scotland on Wednesday evening. Michael Bell provides his player ratings for the Oranje stars.

Tim Krul 5.5/10: Krul again picked over Stekelenburg but the Norwich stopper did not do enough to put himself forward as the definite number one. Could have done better for the opening goal.

Denzel Dumfries 5/10: 5-3-2 is only a good formation if the full-backs are strong and Dumfries did not impress. Lost the ball a lot and could offer nothing going forward. De Boer may have made an error by putting all his faith in the PSV captain.

Owen Wijndal 5/10: Like Dumfries, Wijndal could not impress in an attacking sense throughout. Every time he got forward the ball went backwards or Scotland won it back. Needs to do more going forward.

Matthijs de Ligt 5.5/10: Should be the leader in the Oranje defence, but De Ligt did not put in a strong performance. Suspect for the opening goal. Needs to be more dominant at the Euros.

Stefan de Vrij 6.5/10: Won the ball well and got Oranje moving forward with some good passes. A strong performance from the Inter star.

Jurrien Timber 7/10: The 19-year-old looked so comfortable on his Oranje debut. The standout at the back and excellent on the ball. A future superstar in the making.

Frenkie de Jong 6/10: Was only on the pitch for 30 minutes before being substituted. Had a couple of nice touches but did not dominate the midfield.

Georginio Wijnaldum 6.5/10: A nice assist for the Memphis equaliser before he went off on the half-hour mark. Looked good on the ball and linked well with Memphis.

Marten de Roon 5.5/10: In the eleven to provide more stability to the Netherlands midfield but did not do enough. Had a suspect role in the second Scotland goal. Not strong enough on the ball.

Wout Weghorst 5/10: Given his chance to impress up front but barely touched the ball in the first half as Netherlands didn’t put crosses into the box. Didn’t suit the formation played but put in effort off the ball.

Memphis Depay 7.5/10: Without Memphis, Netherlands would be in big trouble upfront. The forward netted an excellent first-time equaliser in the first half before his free-kick made it 2-2. Oranje’s saviour.

Substitutes

Davy Klaassen 5.5/10: Came on for Wijnaldum but could not get involved in an attacking sense. Also looked painfully slow at some points as Scotland players breezed past him.

Ryan Gravenberch 5/10: A great talent but the midfielder did not impress after coming on in the first-half. Lost the ball far too often. Needs to concentrate more.

Patrick van Aanholt 5.5/10: Got 20 minutes before the end and didn’t make a huge impact on the game.

Quincy Promes 6/10: Got 20 minutes to impress and he tried to make things happen on the wing. However, his end product was lacking.

Steven Berghuis 6.5/10: After his arrival on the pitch, Netherlands moved to a 4-3-3 and looked far more threatening. Took the ball and ran at his opponents.

Luuk de Jong N/A: Not on the pitch long enough for a review
