Netherlands U17’s made it two wins out of two in the elite round of qualifying to ensure their place at this years European Championships.

The 2-0 win over Belgium earlier this week got Netherlands off to a perfect start to the elite round and Kees van Wonderen’s side were expected to make short work of Belarus.

AZ midfielder Thijs Oosting got Oranje off to a great start after 16 minutes, but despite several chances they couldn’t net a second before half time. Oosting hit the woodwork while Daishawn Redan fired a good chance wide.

Six minutes into the second half, captain Achraf El Bouchataoui eventually fired in a second for the dominant Dutch, but Belarus quickly pulled one back through Kiryl Kirylenka.

Just after the hour, Redan made it 3-1 but again Belarus pulled one back through Kirylenka to ensure a nervy last 12 minutes. Despite coming under pressure, Netherlands held on for the win.

On Sunday, Netherlands face Italy in the final group game but the outcome doesn’t matter with the win enough to ensure their place at the finals in Croatia later this year.
