Netherlands U17’s began their European Championships campaign with a 1-0 win over Ukraine.

Kees van Wonderen’s side dominated from the outset by Ukraine but couldn’t find the breakthrough until just after the hour mark. Feyenoord talent Achraf El Bouchataoui found the net from distance with a strike that crashed in off the underside of the crossbar.

The win gets Oranje off to a great start in Croatia and they are second in the group behind England, who beat Norway 3-1. Netherlands face Norway on Sunday.

The top two from each group progress to the knockout phase and the best five nations qualify for the World Cup in India next year.
